A community mobilisation programme ideally consists of a locally organised and planned community intervention, where individuals, groups and agencies such as pastoral councils representatives, business rep, gaa rep, residents, families, schools, gardai, community groups and non-government organisations can over a prolonged period identify needs, plan, carry out and evaluate activities so as to improve health, safety and other needs within the community.

The main aim is to address harmful use of alcohol and other substances by young people, families and communities

Creating a Response

Be creative and innovative

Be realistic, relevant with achievable goals

Advisable not to blame individuals, groups at the beginning as it can be
…….a turn-off (anti-drink)

Focus should be on the social environment + culture of alcohol

The process of a project is as important as the end result and should
…… be recorded

Key: engagement, listening and responding
